"like CNN and The Weather Channel - constant updates"
I took these photos on Sunday, April 12, 2009 in the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn
in New York City. I took the Q32 bus from Woodside to Sunnyside; walked
from Sunnyside in Queens to Greenspoint in Brooklyn (because the Q24 bus never
came along). After I walked around Greenspoint, I took the G line subway back to
Jackson Heights in Queens and walked home from there. About 12,000 steps in
total.
I like to take pictures of old liquor store signs - of old signs in general.
This one is in Sunnyside
this is the view crossing the Queens Midtown Expressway on Greenspoint Avenue
in this frame you can see the Empire State Building and the Chrysler
Building in the background over in Manhattan
this was a pretty desolate stretch between Sunnyside and Greenspoint.
I was wondering about the wisdom of my decision to be walking there a couple
of times.
this is Calvary Cemetary, not to be confused with New Calvary Cemetary in Woodside
this is the view crossing over Newton Creek (the line of demarcation
between Queens and Brooklyn). You can see Manhattan in the background.
this is when I was leaving an industrial zone and getting into Greenspoint, Brooklyn
Greenspoint is still a large Polish enclave. Here's a Polish Catholic churh that
has just let out from mass on Easter Sunday.
a lot of the signs in Greenspoint are in Polish
this guy got started on his Easter celebrating a little early. I am
sure it was happy hour somewhere.
from the Polish culture of Greenspoint, we head over to take in the
South Asian culture of Jackson Heights. I went there to have
lunch at Merit Kebab Palace and ran into a street fair sponsored by the Jackson Heights Merchants
Association.
