![]() These are some of the churches at St. Sofia's. The original construction took place between 1037 and 1044 A.D. during the reign of Yaroslav 'the Wise'. |
![]() The Kiev Opera House where Tanya, Carol and I saw a wonderful Ukrainian opera. We had really good seats for less than $4. The inside of the building was very ornate. The story involved Cossacks and there was lots of great dancing as well as singing. |
![]() A statue of The Man himself: Taras Shevchenko (1814 - 1861); the son of a serf who was eventually canonised as Ukraine's national bard. We ate at a nearby restaurant named "Taras", which in cyrillic looks like "Tapac" because the "P" really sounds like "R" and the "C" really sounds like "S". A "Pectopah" is really a "Restaurant". Sound confusing? It is. |
