JULY 5....CHAT RE: PACKING
A:
I would say MAX would be 7 pair of underwear, 7 shirts,
4 pairs of shorts, 2 long pants (total 6 pairs of pants,
depending on whether you like shorts or long pants),
5 pairs of socks, one pair of comfortable sandals,
one pair of trainers/running/walking shoes, one pair
of nice COMFORTABLE black/brown shoes (like Ecco slip ons),
one very light rain jacket, one very light sweater or pullover.
You can do with less than that, for sure. The laundry I now
use is 10 meters from Boonthavon. they can do same day,
for 40 baht per kilo.
Q:
do you actually need a pullover/sweater?
A:
so if you are into LIGHT travel, then bring 4 shirts, 2 shorts, 2 pants, 4 socks, and same as shoes
in the middle of winter you will at LEAST need a long jacket
and preferably water resistant for rain
not a real sweater
they have great coffee here now. Locally grown. So if you are still wanting to save money, you could buy a small machine here and buy the beans
If you only need one cup per day, then just buy the 55 baht size at the local shops. Not worth buying a machine
rice soup with pork, 2 pieces of toast, is 50 baht.
anyway, noodles are about 25-35 baht
Coffee at a Thai place, in the market, is probably 40 baht
but you need a place to sit, read the IHT and the Bangkok Post for free.
That means going to Wawee or Starbuck's
Depends on if you want to go light.
and pants or shorts.

A:
just a long sleeve shirt would be fine. But I would recommend ONE long sleeved shirt and ONE light jacket
remember, unless your printers/peripherals can use the current over here, they are useless.
Seriously, if you bring more than 7 shirts, you are overpacking
more than 7 pairs of underwear, overpacking
Q:
when will I have an occasion to wear long pants and leather shoes?
A:
Long pants you will need. Like REI nylon travel pants. But that look nice enough to wear out to dinner.
nothing fancy, but nice enough to look good. Not the long convertible pants. But a nice pair.
because you will be going to Singapore to see ______, for sure.
and he will take you out to dinner.
and if you need to go to immigration, have to look decent
Q:
OK...that makes sense. what about luggage ...got any recommendations?
A:
Small roller type bag, small enough to fit on the plane, but realizing that you will probably check it.
Because it will be packed full, but easier to tote around
I am sure you have several!
Something big enough to put your plastic line in before you go back at Xmas
And I have been seeing some very high quality plastic line lately!
Dude very close to my room there is a Rhynes type store
bought a plastic trash can for 10 baht.
you should move here!
Anyway, the internet at the coffee shops is usually faster, but like I said, 250 baht for 10 hours
or for 5 hours
can't remember
If you want to go very light weight......
A:
for about 2 or 3 years, I had 4 shirts, 2 pair of shorts, 5 pair of underwear,
No need to order! Just something LIKE that.
just some generic khaki pants will be MORE than fine
I just sent to show you....not fancy, but not Convertible type
Any type of light, slip on black shoe
trainers will be fine, really
and bring the shit pair.
they will be fine, too
if not too heavey
but not leather
so, to clothes
depends on how light you want to go and how stylish.
I would pack as light as possible.
6 shirts, 5 pair of underwear, 2 nylon shorts that you can wash in your room. One pair of long pants
