11 October 2009 - Chiang Mai, Thailand - Day 11

This is the kind of help I hope I never have to ask for.

You can buy all manner of fruits and vegetables at markets right on the street.

You can buy poultry and seafood.

You can even buy insect larvae. Lots of different ways to get you minimum daily requirement of protein.

I have been looking for a place where I can buy a cool hat like that to keep the sun off my face.

What's a day in Chiang Mai without a visit to a wat? There seems to be a different one around every cornet.

Another 75 cents, another delicious plate of khao man gai.

Songthews are route taxis (not unlike the marshrutkas in Ukraine) that provide cheap transit if you know where the songthew is going.

Tuk-tuks will take you most places in and around the old city for 80 baht (about $2.60).

On the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, the Chiang Mai Expat Club meets at the Shangri La Hotel. I went on Saturday for the first time.

There seems to be a lot of expats living in Chiang Mai.

This is the big surprise; passable Mexican food only a short walk from my guesthouse.

Sunday nights, Rachadamnoen Street, near my guesthouse, turns into Walking Street.

And, people gather on the grounds of the wats to buy all manner of food from the vendors who set up stalls for the occasion.

Walking Street is a good place to get a foot massage.
